To promote research and scholarship into children’s and youth literature, reading and related fields. 

To facilitate cooperation and the exchange of information between researchers in different countries and in difference branches of learning.

To enable researchers in different countries to:

* share discussion of professional and theoretical
   topics 
* initiate and coordinate research
